trestles

This project involved the design and construction of two trestles (also known as sawhorses) that would comprise a table when topped with a glass sheet. I sought to create a coffee table that interrogates the rectangular form, treating trestle as sculpture rather than table mechanism. The resulting objects are an expression of rectangle in opposite form and materiality. The stack is heavy and dynamic both visually and physically, but is ultimately quite simple. The rectangular void is endlessly straightforward and light, yet has a curious visual intrigue of its own.
